Healthy and Active Fund launched by the Welsh Government
The Welsh Government has launched, in partnership with Sport Wales and Public Health Wales, a new £5m Healthy and Active Fund which will strengthen community assets (such as community/sports groups or clubs, schools and workplaces) and enable people to adopt healthier lifestyles. The first phase of the fund focuses on enabling active lifestyles and seek to:
• sustainably increase physical activity in those who are currently sedentary or have very low levels of activity; and
• improve levels of mental well-being by promoting social interactions and increase access to green, yellow or blue spaces.
Delivery projects should seek to reduce inequalities in outcomes and barriers in one or more of the following groups : children and young people; people with a disability or long term illness; people who are economically inactive or who live in areas of deprivation; and older people and those around the age of retirement from work.
Applications will be welcomed from bodies and organisations that have the structure and capacity to deliver the Fund’s objectives, including Public Services Boards, with a requirement to engage with the local community and local community groups in the development of proposals.
Officials would like to work with Public Service Boards to engage communities in identifying suitable collaborative proposals.
Organisations can register their interest and find out further information by emailing HealthyandActiveFund@gov.wales.
