Free ‘Winter Warmer’ Energy Advice Sessions Available January-February 2020

Help your service users to stay warm this winter

Fuel poverty and energy efficiency charity National Energy Action (NEA) Cymru is offering free energy advice sessions to support your work in Wales, to help ensure that low income/ more vulnerable service users can afford to live in a warm, dry home.

We can offer free energy awareness/ energy advice sessions to local groups and organisations as a standalone activity or to support any planned community events you may have already organised throughout January and February 2020.  Three types of tailored energy advice sessions are outlined in the table below:

Community Stall Events

Community Energy Awareness Sessions

Bill Management Surgeries

If you’re holding a community event aimed at low-income or vulnerable households, NEA Cymru can attend and host a stall. We can provide basic energy efficiency, fuel debt and general energy advice and help direct attendees to schemes and services, where applicable.

If you run a regular group, coffee morning, tenant meeting or similar NEA Cymru can run an interactive group session to provide practical energy advice. Sessions can last from 45 mins – 2 hours (with breaks and refreshments) and be tailored to suit the needs of your service users. Activities can include energy-related quizzes, games and discussion.

Minimum 12-15 individuals

Alternatively, if you run a regular group, coffee morning, tenant meeting or the like, NEA Cymru can host a bill management surgery, to provide one-to-one, confidential and impartial advice to your clients to help individuals with their fuel bills and/or apply for services. This can run alongside your regular meeting and work on a drop-in basis.

Minimum 6-8 individuals

Topics for sessions can variously include:

  • Accessing grants and schemes available (e.g. Priority Service Register, Warm Home Discount (£140 electricity credit), Nest – energy efficiency home improvements)
  • How to get the best energy deal (tariffs, switching and payment options)
  • Billing and meter queries (including credit, prepay and smart)
  • Top tips on how to save energy in the home
  • How to use common heating controls
  • Dealing with damp and condensation
  • Advice on dealing with fuel debts.

Sessions are offered as part of NEA Cymru’s ‘Empowering Communities’ project in Wales.  Sessions are limited and are offered on a first come first served basis.  To book a session please or for further details contact: (Project Assistant) or tel: 0191 2692917
